Conference paper proposals due tomorrow!

“It is doubtful that anyone can travel to California and not be happy”

It’s March 14, and here on the East Coast of the United States we are weathering a big snowstorm.  My children both have snow days, and the snowplow has not even passed by my door yet. I’m spending my morning thinking of California sun and also looking forward to the warmth and the collegiality of the conference we are planning there this summer.

I’d like to personally remind and welcome readers and scholars of Elizabeth von Arnim to submit your proposals the joint Elizabeth von Arnim and Katherine Mansfield conference. Proposals are due tomorrow.

I welcome you to join us–the conference web site is here: Elizabeth von Arnim and Katherine Mansfield – Literary Connections, Friendships and Influence (July 19-20, 2017)

The conference will take place July 19-20, 2017 at the beautiful Huntington Library, which holds the largest collection of the papers of “Countess Russell” (our Elizabeth), as well as those of her father. Conference-goers can apply for research access, which will allow you to work in the library. The Huntington is also home to exquisite gardens, an art museum, and even a rose-covered tea room. The library is located in the greater Los Angeles area, and we are planning excursions to Warner Brothers studio (where the film adaptation of von Arnim’s final novel Mr Skeffington was made).

We’ve already received some fascinating proposals, but I hope you will submit one as well by tomorrow. Please join us!

–Noreen O’Connor, vice-president of the Elizabeth von Arnim Society and associate professor, King’s College, Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania

  1. Oh heavens this is wonderful! I’ve read the JASMINE FARM and it’s one of my favorite books ever. I live in San Marino, CA, and would love to meet with fellow Elizabeth devotees! Rosy Mischief
