Oxford World’s Classics edition of The Enchanted April

An Oxford World’s Classics edition of Elizabeth von Arnim’s The Enchanted April will be published in April 2022. General readers of the novel–as well as teachers and scholars of Elizabeth von Arnim–will benefit from the edition, which places the work in the context of a recent blossoming of scholarship on the author and her work. “Scholars are increasingly producing important insights into the work of Elizabeth von Arnim in the context of our wider socio-political and literary understanding,” notes the OWC press. Edited by Isobel Maddison, founding president of the Elizabeth von Arnim Society, this is the first edition of the novel to include scholarly explanatory notes, which detail the significance of literary and intertextual references and establish connections with other texts and writers. The volume also includes a bibliography of selected scholarly work and an author’s timeline by von Arnim biographer Jennifer Walker. The edition is now available to order on the Oxford World’s Classics website.
