Katherine Mansfield Centenary Festival

To celebrate the centenary of NZ writer Katherine Mansfield (1888-1923), Taiwan born New Zealand concert pianist, cellist and poet Sherry Grant (Artistic Director) invites you to join her, Dr. Gerri Kimber (Festival Patron, UK) and presenters from around the world at the online International KM100NZ Festival (17-19 November 2023, 9am-3pm & rerun 9pm-3am NZDT).

There will be concerts galore, haiku reading by poets from many countries, interviews, KM book talks, video presentations by KM scholars, a KM documentary and screening of the special featured NZ film ‘Bliss’ (2011) about the young Mansfield — this festival aims to inspire more people to get to know Katherine Mansfield and her New Zealand connections. The results of the International KM100NZ Haiku Competition will be announced during the festival, and a new haiku anthology ‘Loneliness’ will be published — a selection of short form poems from the competition (available from the festival website in December 2023). Sherry’s Catch23 concert tours and Child of the Sun world premiere in Dunedin with mezzo soprano Tessa Romano (19 new songs by 12 NZ composers) are some of the highlights of this KM celebration through NZ music.

Presenters from the Katherine Mansfield Society, Virginia Woolf Society of Great Britain, DH Lawrence Society, and International Elizabeth von Arnim Society have been invited for this reunion a hundred years later! If you are visiting Katherine Mansfield’s birth city Wellington, NZ, you must not miss the Katherine Mansfield House and Garden!
