Elizabeth von Arnim featured by Literature Cambridge

In rather exciting news, Isobel Maddison is going to give a lecture series on Elizabeth von Arnim for Trudi Tate’s wonderful organisation Literature Cambridge. Isobel’s course will comprise four fortnightly online sessions from 8 November to 20 December 2023, on Wednesdays 6.00 to 8.00 pm. Elizabeth. von Arnim Society members receive a 20 pound discount on their registration.

Isobel is going to talk about some of von Arnim’s best-loved classics as well as Expiation, one of her lesser known novels:

1. Elizabeth and her German Garden (1898; Virago, 1985)

2. The Pastor’s Wife (1914; Virago, 1987)

3. The Enchanted April (1922; Oxford World’s Classics 2022)

4. Expiation (1929; Persephone, 2021)

Beyond Isobel’s lecture series, Alison Hennegan is starting her January course on women writers of the 1920s with Elizabeth’s masterpiece Vera, which is promising to be a treat.
