Dear all:

We are delighted to tell you that full details and registration forms for our afternoon event in Cambridge on 6 June 2020 can now be found on the Society’s website: www.elizabethvonarnimsociety.org/conferences/elizabeth-von-arnim-spanning-the-centuries-cambridge-june-2020/.

At this event, entitled ‘Elizabeth von Arnim – Spanning the Centuries’, we anticipate a lively afternoon of talks and discussion, with light refreshments included. We are delighted that our main speaker will be Professor Carolyn Oulton from the School of Humanities, Canterbury Christ Church University and Director or the International Centre for Victorian Women Writers). In a brief illustrated talk, ‘Elizabeth of the Chalet Soleil’, Jennifer Walker will introduce you to the remarkable gathering friends who joined ‘Elizabeth’ at her Chalet Soleil in Switzerland one hundred years ago, in the August of 1920.

We look forward to welcoming members and friends to this event and hope to receive your registrations soon; we hope as many as possible will join us at Lucy Cavendish College. Please see the website for further information and forms.

With best wishes to all,

Jennifer Walker, Jennifer Shepherd and the Committee of the Elizabeth von
Arnim Society

  1. I just started reading The Enchanted April and am trying to discover who the character Mrs Fisher is based on if anyone is known. She is so like what I believe my husband’s grandmother Janie Fisher was like and perhaps something like her mother Augusta Ritchie. Does anyone know?
